This is adapted from a real letter a CGA alum sent to his own senator. Fill in the brackets, send it to whoever can actually act — a member of Congress, the Academy Superintendent, the Commandant, or your own alumni association board.
Dear [Recipient],
I am a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Class of [Year]. [Add your relevant background here, if it strengthens the case.] I am writing to ask you to press for the rescission of former Secretary Noem's February 14, 2025 directive banning all mention of "climate change" within the Coast Guard and at the Academy.
This directive directly undermines Coast Guard readiness. The Academy runs the Center for Arctic Study and Policy — a mission impossible to fulfill while the words "climate change" are formally banned. Every CGA graduate earns a Bachelor of Science; censoring peer-reviewed science from coursework violates that credential.
A public statement from you on this issue would matter, and I believe it's well within your reach.
